First Draft of Video

Editing

To beign the editing we plugged the memory sticks into the Mac to begin the editing in iMovie. We chose to edit on iMovie so we have the access to the video to edit at home where most of our free time is giving us more time to work on the video.
However we did begin to edit on Premier which was on the school computers, we found it harder to use due to the complications of going through step by step, where some clips didnt work.
Although this did waste a little time it made things quicker with the editing in the long run.
On iMovie we imported the clip we had previously had onto the library and created a new project, although we still had a bit of filming to do we began the begining of the video as we knew we haad the clip we wanted to use for the opening scene through the use of the storyboard.

Software

The software we are going to be using to create and edit our video is called adobe premiere elements, this can be quite difficult to use however we will try as many different things with it as we can. So far using this software we know how to import our video footage, drag it to the timeline, cut the clips down and use some effects, we hope to experiment with these more when creating our final version. We have also learnt how to remove the audio from this so we can put our song over the video, however we have now had to change the programme we used because this was not always reliable and we wanted a software that was more accessable and that we could use at home in our own time aswell.

Progress So Far

We are now ready to film and we are happy with our storyboard. We have done alot of research and planning and we are hoping this will show when we produce our music video, we have put a lot of thought and have a really good idea of what we want our music video to look like and we are hoping to produce this through our draft video. We have decided to film in our first location which will be in town and we are planning to meet there on a saturday when we are all free and take time do to our first session of shooting.

Continuing to Film

We are hoping to continue to film next monday which will be the 7th of November, the location we are hoping to do this at is in town, we have about four different locations to film at in this place and we will hopefully get all of this done so we will get more footage to be able to finish our draft and evaluate to make the best video we can. The props we will need to take will be a tripod, a camera , a guitar and some sort of pot or hat which are part of our storyboard. It is important that we pay attention to the little bits in our video also because these are the bits that make it look proffesional!
We are aware that we will have to think the time of the day we film through as it gets dark early now and the lighting needs to match and look ok with the footage that we have already filmed. We also need to think about our artists hair, make-up and costume as we dont want the same as the other footage but we dont want them to be too different and change the style of the video too much.

Equipment we used.

In our first day of filming we had to arange getting the equipment together, this ended up being more hassel than we thought it would be however we did over come this. We used a tripod and camera that Samrita managed to get from Leicester College because all the ones at school were booked out and I managed to get a Guitar to use and get that to our locations in town. We will need this equipment again for our next session of filming but will also need more props such as a chair for the beginning of our storyboard and we may also end up needing to use a car as a prop. We will have to get a different camera to use for our next filming because we had to return this one to Leicester College, we will hopefully be able to book one out from school for a couple of days to get the rest of our filming done.

Weather Forecast

We are hoping to film next week to be able to start our draft video, therefore we have checked the weather forecast and will continue to do this for each filming session as we are aware the weather needs to be around the same each time to make our video as proffesional as possible.

Filming in Our First Location

The first location that we filmed in was at a house, one of the reasons we did this was to make our artist feel more comfortable and hopefully get the best video we can. We did originally also want to do some filming in the garden but it got dark too quickly for us to be able to so we are hoping to do this soon. Improvements from filming in our first location is especially the lighting, it wasnt the best lighting and when we looked back at the footage it is definatly too dark to use in our final music video.

Starting To Film

We are now at the stage of starting our filming we feel like we have done enough research and put enough time into our story board to now start doing this. The first location we are going to is town and the locations inside this are the fountain (25), the street (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 22, 23, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 116, 117), the stairs ( 14, 15, 16, 17, 103, 104, 105, 106), the clock tower (26, 31, 32, 33, 59) and the glass wall (27). This has taken quite a lot of planning to get everybody together and to organise getting the props there especially because wer had trouble with getting a camera and tripod because they were all booked out, however we have overcome this by being able to borrow one from somewhere else.
We are hoping to complete all of these shots tomorrow and then to continue filming the next shots the next day however we need to be careful and quick because of the weather. We are hoping to use different outfits and hair for each location however this first draft is also about getting our actress use to doing this and seeing if our storyboard works as we hoped it to, we can always continue to improve our music video and retake shots after if this is necessary.

Brief Evaluation

I am evaluating my digipak and poster to get feedback on my own views that i would like to change or adapt.

Digipak, for my digipak i would prefer for the image on the front be more stonger and a powerful statue, would also change the clothing into something more 'diva' like to show that my artist is infact a popular singer. The overall look will be more dressed up for example with heels and dark make-up. The font of the texts will infact be adapted to be more boxed and thinner like the Kelly Rowland magazine advert that i have anaylsed. I will also consider using more colour rather than the original black and white specification.

The poster, now i am still going to use the country side look of the images for the middle section of the cd digipak, however i am going to make it a whole image instead of three seperate with the artist posing in. This is particulally due tot he research and main inspiration. I am also going to use a bit more colour on the front cover to attract more attention whensitting on the shelf. The text will also be more thinner and box like the digipak. The front cover pose is also going to be stronger and powerful after looking at other artists such as Rihanna Beyonce and Kelly Rowland, all powerful female artists.

Magazine Advert - Kelly Rowland

Although this advert isnt mainly based on her album is it a little about her life which music play a huge factor in.

This is the first double page spread i have looked at the analyse, i prefer this look as it gives the impression that they are more famous or well known, they are more important than other artists on single pages and over all showsa higher profile. I am definately going to use this on my final magazine advert.

The pale blue works really well as the background colour as it is so bright, the image and the text also bounces off of it being so noticable to the readers. The colour also works well with Kelly Rowlands skin tone. The black colour of the text although is really thin still stands out and acts as a begining to the little paragraphs below it, drawing the viewers eyes to read on.

The main image shows that the artist is a diva by the pose she is making, with the soft look from her eyes and  leening forwards to the camera lense. As we dont see the rest of the artists body it is a mid-shot if her curled up giving a vunerable look. This is a typical pose which doesnt support the male gaze and this is the exact loo and feel i want to use for my magazine advert.

Although there is alot of space around the edges and the page is rather bare, the colour makes it look alright as the main details are clearly shown being the image and the text in the middle of the page. maybe a little more is needed on the page especially as it is a double page spread. However little text, and simplicity is a typical convention of a magazine advert.

Magazine Advert-Beyonce

Although this Beyonce advert is not for her album, it is infact advertising her perfume range.

The pose, is a very powerful strong status that her fans know is a typical famous and well known fact of Beyonce and the image she often gives off. The clothing is revealing and therefore does apply to the male gaze, although i edont really want to use this for my magazine as i believe you can still get a male audience behind you without the use of the male gaze. With Beyonce looking straight at you it giver a almost personal, intimidating feel towards you, ho9wever in a good way, as in you will feel more strong, confident and powerful if you wear her perfume brand.

Her clothing is in relation to the page layout in general, with the 'laser' looking light beams crossing the page, the clothing is also quite sharpe and bright. In particular i notice this witih the common theme of the warrior look from the clothing and light beams relate.

The colour scheme all round is blue, i love this effect as it works well with the perfume bottle being blue. The different contrasts work well by also standing the page out by using the colour blue and the diferent lighting is eye catching.

The very little text on the page gets the the point for the viewers as when flicking through a magazine they dont want to haveto read paragraphs on end ust too find out the name of the product, what the product is, and what brand it is. All of these factors are stated clearly in white text to stand out even more, as well as the larger font.

Magazine Advert – Rihanna

The genre of this advert and that of her music album is gothic giving a rebellious effect and also mysterious with her hand covering half of her face.

Rihanna’s magazine advert is completely black and white just like her album cover, as it is the same image, and still it is giving a rebel, gothic look in comparison to the feminine sexy looks she usually gives off through her video, image and album covers. However the colour does represent the song that is being advertised which is also quite different to her usual style, i think Rihanna is trying out a different theme and she's proven that he can pull that gothic look off too. ‘Russian Roulette’ and ‘Hard’ stand out on the page and they are the only texts that are in colour (red) this is because she wants them to stand out due to there huge popularity in comparison to the other songs on her album, as the whole track list isn't presented.

The name of the artist and the album is in a different font to the 'R' which is on the album cover and the text of the red highlighted song names. However they are all i relation being quite boxed with sharp edges and in capitals, not only does it stand out bunt reflects back to the whole theme of the album and advert being gothic and rebellious.

The image of Rihanna is the main object situated in the advert giving a deep meaningful and thoughtful look in her pose it also looks dominating and a strong, powerful feminine look towards Rihanna herself. Her make-up is heavy and dark adding to the gothic effect and the used of her looking directly at the camera with one of her hands covering half of her face makes her look suspicious and as if she’s hiding something.

The main target audience i would say for Rihanna’s album is teenagers and young adults but particularly aimed at people around the age of 13-30 as i don't think that some of her lyrics are appropriate for any child younger, although they may for example like the beat to a few words they wouldn't be a main target audience stereotype.

Digipaks - Two Discs+

I have chosen to look at these different digipaks because i love the thought of having more than one disc, like the Beyonce Album i previously analysed, that was the main inspiration to this research.

Inspirational Digipak

This was my most inspired digipak design, through the previous research into image shots i would use from the country side. A the image has a full image shown through the three stages/sides of the digipak, when opened it gives a lovely effect. I am going to use this sort of layout for my draft of the digipak and take it from there to develop. More images will be taken to be more relevant to my own digipak in particular rather than the whole groups. Like the digipak above this is the middle of the cd, i will also use this layout for the middle rather than the front cover and back.

DigiPacks

These are just a few examples of DigiPacks i particually liked the i took inspiration from, one is a past students work.

Feedback from Digipak

Again i have asked people to give me feedback for my Digipak so i can see what people would like and what they think would sell. I need to make it eye catching and it needs to draw attention to the artist.

Emma: ' The grey background is too dull, again try changing the colours around and see if they work better. Experiment with fonts and colours of the words more to see what looks better. Try not cutting the picture out and try different photographs and see if it looks more professional with a background'

Abbie: 'Its too dark and dull and if the picture of Skye is going to be dark then her outfit needs to be bright and in colour. Consider changing the shot of the picture for the front cover and try different effects'

Improvements for Digipak

My first main improvement for my digipak would be to get some more ideas and use more different pictures for some parts of it, i like the idea of the lyrics being on their but i need to make sure if im going to have some on their i need to have either all, none or possibly the just 'Fast Car' lyrics because these are obviously the main focus.
Photos are obviously something that need to be done again as this is an improvement for both of my draft pieces. I also think that some of the photos need to be edited or changed to black and white just to make it slightly more creative.

DigiPack Ideas

I chose a country side theme to the images as they relate to the genre of the song, some of these shots will look really good on the album cover with our artist Skye in them.

First Draft of DigiPak

Mock up of Digipak

This is my first mock up of a digipak, these images are not of Skye however they will be for my first draft. This is the layout i would liek for my digipak with the CD in the middle and the positioning of the other pages. I like the use of pictures here and think that it looks good, inspiration was from the digipak i have previosuly analysed. However i do need to add more on to the front cover on this digipak.

Ideas for my Digipack

I have had a few ideas for my digipak, the first definate idea being that i would like to use more than one picture it in, however one of these i would like to be on the front cover. The fornt cover is the main part of the this and needs to catch the attention of the consumer and the target audiance. I need to consider my target audiance throughout making the whole thing because i need it to appeal to them and make them want to buy it. On the front cover i would like to make quite a bold picture, however because the colour scheme is black, white and red the thing that i think will hopefully catch peoples attemtion is going to be the picture of the artist. We are going to be taking some more photographs of our artist and trying some different things to get some more creative photographs.
On the back cover or the third page on the front i would also like to include some sort of quote from a magazine, paper or other artist to also get peoples attention and this then already gives the album a good rating. I have already decided i want the CD to be placed in the middle of the three pages, however i do need to remember that i will still need to create the page for underneath this for when the CD is taken out and it must still be as good as the rest, however i don't want these three to look exactly the same.

Analysing a Digipack

media digipack

Analysing DigiPacks

Below i am going to analyse some digi-packs, the ones that i am looking at include other media students work. I am looking at this to see what needs to be included and to give me some ideas for what it should look like and what looks good.

This one is another media students work, as you can see it is hand drawn which is a good effect and a different way to do something however i dont think it is something i will be choosing to do with the one that i create. From this example i can see that it doesn't have to have a lot of information in or be over the top. The inside of this on the left is very simple and as we can see from the picture of the tree on the front it fits with the theme. Information that is included is the artists name, the songs in the album and there is a barcode and some information on the back too. These are all things i will need to include in mine.

This is a 'Kings of Leon' digi-pack, as we can see it has the same colour scheme throughout; grey, black and white. I think it is effective because it is so simple yet it looks really good, the inside is the same all the way through which i think it good because it doesnt look messy or overcrowded. I also like the other side which includes the front and back cover because the pictures are creative yet they work well together and we can also see some information is included on the inside page of the digi-pack, this could be a bit of information about the band or the album.

This is also another students work. It is very simplistic and doesnt contain much information but it does look good and the atyle is the same throughout it all. The colour scheme is also very clearly the same throughout the digi-pack. This one includes quite a few pictures of the artist which i think is something i am considering to do however the black page isnt something i am thinking of doing because i dont think it will go with the style of my digi-pack.

Layout For Digi-paks

Here i am looking at the layout of Digi-packs, a digipack includes all parts of the CD, the one that i create will have six parts to it like the two pictures in the middle here. As you can see from some of these pictures the part for the actual CD can go anywhere in the middle three sections. Things i must include are a front cover, back cover and a space for the CD, what i put on each of these is up to me. I want it to look simple and it must match the colour scheme for the rest of the things i will make; red, black and white.

Inspiration for Digi-Pack

Here i am going to look at inspiration for my Digi-pack. It will relate to a lot of the research i have done for my magazine advert, the colour scheme and font will most likely be the same or at least included in both, this is to make a clear link between the two. I will look at all things for my inspiration not just other digi-packs, this is because i want to get as many ideas as possible. I think all aspects of the digi-pack will be important and i will defiantly be taking more photographs to complete my final copy of my Digi-pack and Poster. Here i am looking at colour scheme, shots, facial expressions, the locations and the style of the image.

This photo has a very edgy look about it, i like the position and the pose of the artist. I think it makes her look like a very powerful person, this is because of the way she is looking straight into the camera and her facial expression. As we can see the colour scheme is black and white, i think this also adds to the style of the picture. It is a very simple picture however it looks very good and stylish. We should take pictures in different styles and colour, although remembering our colour scheme to see what kind of pictures we like the most and fit best with the style of our artist and the other pictures in our digi-pack.

This photo is slightly more creative than the last one, it is more of a moving photo than the last. The things that make this picture is a combination of the colours, outfit and position of the artist. Again when the photo is finished and done it looks like a quite a simple photograph it would not be easy to get by just taking a photograph however i would like quite a creative photograph for my digi-pack, either on the front cover or on one of the pages inside.

This picture has more of a girly look than the above ones, depending on what we want our artist to look like we will have to consider the shot and outfit. Although we can not see all of the artist here, it is obvious it is more of a girly photograph because of the way the artist is looking at the camera and her facial expression e.g. her smile. Also because of the accessories like the bow in Beyonce's hair, again this is something we will need to consider for our artist.
I like this image but again it would not be easy and simple to take although it looks simple now, it is also effective and looks good, the outfit is more of the statement in this photograph than the artists facial expression or positioning. I think the image that this gives the artist is quite girl yet she is making a statement and being bold with the choice of the clothing however it is obvious here that there is no location behind her and again this is something we need to consider.

These photographs are beautiful and very creative, i especially like the locations in these and would like something like this for at least one of my photographs. Although they are the same in the idea of having a location they are two very different photos, the one on the left is obviously lighter with a 'fairytale' feeling, she is in front of a very simple background that doesn't take the attention away from her, she is also wearing a great dress that really fits with the location where as the one on the right has more of a 'romantic' feel to it and the background does get more attention with the lights and obviously because the artist it behind the tree and further in the background. The colour schemes for both work really well too.

This photo, like the first one, has quite an edgy and rock feel to it, this is because of the outfit and positioning of the artist. The hair and make-up is also something we need to consider, on this photo they have gone or quite a natural look with bolder clothing and jewellery so we need to consider which one we want to do and what we want our artist to look like.

Feedback from Poster

I have asked a few people to look at my poster and give me some advice on how to inprove it and make it better. I have chosen to do this to see how people see it from a consumers point of view. These are the comments that i got back.

Emma: 'Its not very attention catching, maybe think about moving the colours around. A bolder font would be better and a more creative picture of the artist'

Abbie: 'The picture needs to be slightly more proffesional looking. The overall poster needs to be more eye catching and interesting. Consider using a different background'

From these suggestions i will re think what i want my poster to look like and make it more appealing to the consumers eye. I am taking all these points into consideration and will take new photos and hopefully have some more creative locations for the backgrounds.

Improvements for Poster

My first draft of my magazine poster i did quite quickly and i need to put some more time and effort in to this, one of the main things i have to improve is the picture, i want to take some more creative pictures of which some i want to be outside and hopefully use some fairy lights when its dark. I also think the background needs to be more creative and maybe use the whole photo and not photoshop the background if, however this means taking a very god picture also with good equipment to make sure it looks the best it can. I need to experiment more with fonts and the size of the fonts to see more ways of creating something that looks good!
Other things i could include would be a quote from a magazine or paper or maybe some stars and ratings from other people. I think the over all poster needs to see more glamorous and presentable. I need to think of Skye as a celebrity and make the outfits more celebrity like and also the make-up and hair, i need to spend some time with 'Navneet' who is playing Skye to experiment with these sorts of things and see what looks good.

First Draft of Poster

Poster Mock Ups

These are my mock ups of my magazine adverts, these are just quick ideas and not of my real artist. Obviously when making my first draft i will hopefully have more detail in it and will experiment more with a few different things.
I like these closer poses for the magazine advert and will also consider using them on my digipack but personally i think they are best for here because i think they get the attention of the person because of the picture, as you can see from our blog we have taken a few pictures of our artist however i do intend to take more and hopefully be slightly more creative with them to get some good shots for our final outcomes.
