Examples of Other Texts

I have looked into examples of other texts, this is to give me inspiration for our music video and cover of our CD. The first thing i looked into was other songs of Tracy Chapman's who is the artist of 'Fast Car'. I looked at this first because it would hopefully tell me other things our target market are interested in.
The first other song i looked at is 'Can i hold you'


 I think this video is very similar to 'Fast Car'. It features a lot of the artist and shows how much shes loves music through this i think, i want us to hopefully be able to show this in our video by featuring a lot of the artist but hopefully in more creative ways. I think the darker and dull colours in these videos , it gives the feeling of emotion and relates to it being an old song, however i think we should add a couple of colours in to our video to try and modernise slightly. There is also use of instruments as we can see within the first five seconds of the video, hopefully we will be able to achieve this to make our video creative and show the passion and emotion in the music and lyrics. I think it is very important to show a clear link between the visuals and the lyrics especially because of the lyrics of 'Fast Car'.

Tracy Chapman Album Covers.

 These are examples of Tracy Chapman's album covers, i have chosen to look at this because she is our first inspiration for our music video because she is the artist of the song. As we can see from looking at this the colours are quite dark and dull like her videos, i think from this we should possibly include an image from our video in our cover or at least one like it, i thin it looks good to show the link between these, even by just using the same colour scheme. My favourites on here are the last one because of the colours, the like the stone brown sort of colour with the black. I also like how it is just a close up picture of Tracy with the same faintly down the side, this makes the picture the main attraction.

 There are two more pictures from these ones i have chosen which i like the most and will hopefully use an inspiration towards our ideas. One of these is the third one down, i think this looks good again because of the colours and the picture, I think although it is a simple picture, with simple writing and colours it looks creative. The other one i like is the sixth one down this is because it is slightly more creative than the others and looks more 'edgey'. I think it looks good how the colour of the flowers is over the photo of the artist and how the colours are all matching, for example the red flowers with the red writing saying 'Change' at the top.

As well as looking at Tracy Chapman's other music and CD covers etc. i have also chosen to look at other peoples music i enjoy and that i like. From my market research i have found that i think we should try and make our music video slightly more modern than the original, therefore i am going to look at some more modern videos which will inspire me and give me ideas for our music video of 'Fast Car'.

 I have chosen to look at 'Single Ladies' because i think it is quite a different video and even though it is simple i think it is quite creative which is what i am hoping to achieve with our music video. I like at the beginning of this video where we start to hear the music before we actually see the artist and then it seems they kind of come out of a shadow, i think this effect looks good. I also like how the background throughout the whole video it is all set in the same place, however i think we will have it slightly different in our video because we want to show a clear link between the lyrics and the visuals of the video. However i like how the colours are kept simple too and it doesn't make the video look overcrowded and messy. The differences to this video and hopefully our music video will be we will have different locations and there wont be dancing all the way through, however this video is quite inspiring and i think it will give us some good ideas of how to make our video more modern to appeal to more people.

Another video i have chosen to look at it is Ellie Golding's Version of 'Your Song'. One of the main reasons i have chosen to look at this is because it is a song that has been copied and therefore it isn't the first video made fore the song, which is just like ours.


At the beginning of the video the first thing we see is a close up of the artist, and throughout the video is a lot of different shots and locations, hopefully we will be able to add this all into our video to make it look creative and slightly different from the original.
We also see the artist singing the song in some parts and not in others which is one of ideas we have had for our video since the beginning of choosing our song. I also like how there are different locations and we see the artist just being 'herself'.  I also like how the colours are all sort of the same, they is alot of use of colour but its all sort of in the same category therefore it doesn't look too messy and it also helps to set the scene of the video.
