Fast Car was released on an album called Tracy Chapman in 1990, this instantly tells us that it is an old song; therefore this should have some relevance to our target audience. From listening to this song and a few other songs on some of Tracy Chapman’s different albums we can tell what sort of music she likes to sing, these are very simple and mellow songs but mostly with a meaning and serious lyrics.
‘Tracy Chapman’ Album includes:
Across the lines, Baby can I hold you, Behind the Wall, Fast Car, For my lover, For you, If not now, Mountains O things, She’s got her ticket, Talking about a revolution, Why.
Other albums of hers include songs such as:
Dreaming on a world, Open arms, Smoke and Ashes, First Try and Going Back.
These songs also inspire us because they let us know about other songs and music videos our target market is interested in.
So far we have the idea of keeping out music video simple like many of Tracy Chapman’s Video and hopefully to include something like our artist singing at a concert. We also want our lyrics to relate to the visuals, we think this is important in a music video if it has a meaning or serious lyrics. We are also thinking of hopefully making it a bit more modern that older videos, this is to make it appeal to our target audience more, although we know they like this genre of music they are also likely to be interested in other genres too which are probably more modern. Therefore hopefully if we are able to make our video more modern we can make it appeal to more people.
