Market Research Extended

As stated in my other 'Market Research' post , the most popular favourite artists were Beyonce, Adele, Bruno Mars , The Beetles and Elvis. I have decided to look more into some of their videos to see what ideas we could possibly use or what can inspire us for our music video. The first artist I have chosen to look at is Beyonce.

In this video the scenery all the way through is very simple and at the beginning it is all white and as it goes through it gradually gets more colour, however it always seems simple.
The location in the video doesn't change until about a minute into it which i think is good because it sets the scene of the video, which is important because in this video it is very clear that it is telling a story.
They are also a lot of different shots used in this video as we can see and there is a close up of Beyonce about 10 seconds into the video and i think this helps to show the emotion of the character she is in this video.
There is also a 'clip' of the people in a different location about two minutes into this which i think helps to show more of the story she is singing to us and also adds a bit more into the video.
From this video i think we should consider the colour scheme used and how much of a story we can see through the visuals.

I have also chosen to look at this video because they are quite similar to each other with the simple locations and the colour scheme , however this one is more black and white than the one above. It also shows blue when we see Beyonce is in the water, i think it was good to put this bit in the video because it makes it a little bit different and it slightly more creative.
Again they also use close ups through out the video and again i think using a lot of different shots is effective. One of the main differences i think there is between this video and the one above is that this one doesn't tell so much of a clear story through the visuals.

Adele

I really like this video, i think it is very creative with the different props and ideas they use , things like the glasses and the 'dancer'. I like how the artist is in the same place throughout the video with this sort of going on all around her, i think it is a quirky video and again it uses alot of different shots. At the beginning and throughout the video it is quite dark dull colours, nothing really bright is in the video however i think this works well because it goes with the tone and the style of the song.

Bruno Mars

This video is the most different from the other ones i have looked at, firstly because there is obviously more use of colour and at the beginning we see the name of the artist and the song in the video and this is something we need to consider if we want or not. Also i think this is one of the more creative ones i have looked at, this is because of how they use the tape, this looks really good and is used throughout the whole video. The video is set all in one room and we mainly see the two people sitting on the sofa's. The artist sometimes sings into the camera and we see the use of instruments (piano) and i know this is something we are considering to use. Again the video has alot of different shots in it and i think this is important and something we have seen in most of the videos we have looked at therefore we should try and get as many in ours as possible but without making it look to messy.

The next artists we look at are older than the ones above, these are the most popular ones stated in the questionnaires i hadn't out as people favourite older artists. The first one i am going to look at is 'The Beatles'.

This is more of an old video and i think it is very easy to tell this, the setting of the video is the band singing  in to a microphone and playing instruments with an audience present. It is a very simple music video, however i do like it and i think we should consider using our artist playing at a concert or anywhere with an audience. There are also not as many different shots used in this video, but there is still close ups used. The video does get slightly more lively when the audience are in the video and this is when it gets to the chorus. I think this is a good music video and it works well with the tone of the song.

This video is very similar to the one above apart form the fact it has no colour at all and is all in black and white. However i do think it looks a bit better because it has the 'The Beatles' in the background, i think this is because it looks like more of a concert than the previous video. The videos are the same in the way they both have audiences and they are both are just simply of the artists singing and playing instruments on a stage.

This is the last video i have looked at, i think there are two main parts to this video. These are Elvis being on the stage and singing to an audience, dancing and with the use of musical instruments. The other part of this is the clips we see of Elvis in the blue suit. I think this helps to divide the video up more and add a bit more to it.

I think one of the main differences from the older videos and the new ones is that the newer videos have more of a clear link between the lyrics and the visuals and i think this is something we should try and add in to our video to help and make it more modern.
